A solid brass dimmer with a knurled dial — the ridged texture borrowed from vintage audio equipment, machined into the metal so it grips and doesn't wear smooth.

Check this before ordering: this is a 1-way dimmer only. It controls a light from a single location. If your light is switched from two places — both ends of a hallway, top and bottom of a stairway — you need a 3-way dimmer instead, and this one will not work.

The dimming itself is smooth rather than stepped: no jumps between levels, just a continuous glide from a low evening setting up to full. Triac dimming, compatible with most dimmable LED and incandescent lamps.

It is solid brass rather than plated, which is what accounts for the weight in the hand. Each piece is hand-finished, so the patina develops differently across the range and no two are quite identical.

Before you order: this is US-specification wiring. It replaces a standard US wall dimmer in an existing US electrical box, and is not suitable for European or UK installations. Fitting a mains dimmer is electrical work — have it installed by a qualified electrician, and follow your local code.
