A braided jute rug with a black border running round the edge. The border is what makes it work in a room that is otherwise plain — without it a natural fibre rug can read as unfinished, and the dark trim gives the honeyed field an edge to sit against.

The jute is handwoven and braided rather than machine-tufted, so the texture is uneven in the way natural fibre should be, and it takes the wear rather than showing it. It softens a hard floor without the bulk of a pile rug.

Twenty sizes, and the shape range is unusually wide: narrow 23 inch runners up to twelve feet long for a hallway or a galley kitchen, through standard room sizes, up to a 106 by 144 inch rug that will define an open living space on its own.
